About the Artist: David Dye

David Dye is a freelance artist and retired U.S. Army Sergeant whose creative journey began in childhood and grew through his years of global military service. After retiring from the Army, he earned a degree in graphic design and has exhibited work across the U.S. and Germany. His art draws inspiration from military life, nature, and African American artist Ernie Barnes. Now living in Germany, David returns to the Twin Cities to inaugurate The BEE Gallery with a weeklong residency.

About the Black Excellence Experience

The Black Excellence Experience (B.E.E.) is a new artist residency program at Sabathani Community Center, providing a platform for emerging Black artists to showcase their work, engage with the community, and grow their creative careers.

Each selected artist receives a one-week residency in The BEE Gallery, where they can:
✔ Exhibit completed artwork
✔ Create new pieces on-site
✔ Sell their work directly to patrons

We welcome artists working in a wide range of visual media, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, woodworking, textiles (knitting, crocheting, quilting), jewelry, greeting cards, clothing design, and other original creations. This opportunity is open to Black artists of all ages whose work has not yet been featured in local galleries.
