Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder: Sabathani Community Center Unveils New Living History Museum
On February 22, Sabathani Community Center commemorated Black History Month with a vibrant Southside Community Celebration, showcasing the inauguration of the new Living History Museum. The event, graced by performances from the Sabathani Vintage Voices and Grammy-winning Sounds of Blackness, drew in a crowd of hundreds eager to witness the moment.
Among the museum’s highlights is a dedicated room set to feature rotating special exhibits. The inaugural exhibit paid homage to the iconic Sounds of Blackness. Former and current board chairs, Bill English and Andrea Atkinson, alongside CEO Scott Redd, were present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Guests were treated to a diverse array of exhibits, including “Southside Heroes,” “Owning Up: Racism and Housing in Minneapolis,” and a comprehensive “Timeline of the Southside.” Open during regular building hours, the museum welcomes visitors to explore the important history of the Southside.
