Sabathani Partners with Xcel Energy for Resiliency Project
Minnesota Public Utilities Commission recently approved of a $9 million resiliency investment at three Minneapolis community centers, including the Sabathani Community Center.
A project of the City of Minneapolis and Xcel Energy, the Resilient Minneapolis projects will help Sabathani be more resilient in times of power outages. The project also supports the City’s and Xcel Energy’s equity, environmental justice, and distributed energy objectives, as the centers chosen centers serve communities with large populations of Black people, Indigenous people and people of color that have been disproportionately vulnerable to climate change and other stressors.
Xcel Energy will work with Sabathani to install a solar and battery microgrid, which will provide electricity in the event of power outages.
