Join Sabathani Community Center and our partners for a six-week Walking Challenge designed to help you keep moving through the fall and early winter. With a progressive walking plan and group support, you’ll build healthy habits, boost your energy, and improve your overall well-being—one step at a time! 

Why Join?

Regular brisk walking offers powerful health benefits: 

  • Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat 
  • Prevent or manage heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes 
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness 
  • Strengthen bones and muscles 
  • Boost energy and immune system 
  • Improve mood, memory, and sleep 
  • Reduce stress and tension 

Challenge Details

Dates: October 23 – December 4 (skipping the week of Thanksgiving)
When: Walk anytime during the week on your own, or join group walks at these times:  

  • Tuesdays, 9:30am – with a Walking Captain Heidi Adelsman
  • Thursdays, 9:30am – at Sabathani Community Center with Sabathani Community Health Navigator Rebekah Floyd

Meet at Sabathani Community Center, room 136.

Where: Indoors or outdoors—your choice! Walk at Sabathani or in your own neighborhood. Just keep a log of your walks (days + minutes). 

Goal: Walk at least 5 days per week. Start small and build up: 

  • Week 1: Build the habit 
  • Week 2: Increase time 
  • Week 3: Add intensity 
  • Week 4: Push endurance 
  • Week 5: Challenge pace 
  • Week 6: Peak week—strong finish! 

Incentives & Prizes

Stay motivated with weekly rewards and prize drawings: 

  • Weeks 1–2: Weekly gift card incentive 
  • Week 3: Weekly gift card incentive + Midpoint Raffle 
    • Prizes: walking shoes, fitness tracker, 2 × $25 gift cards 
  • Weeks 4–5: Weekly gift card incentive 
  • Week 6 Finale Raffle! 
    • 1 Fitbit/Smartwatch 
    • 1 Pair of walking shoes 
    • 2 × $25 gift cards 

All active participants receive the weekly gift card incentive and a certificate of recognition upon completion.

Who Can Join? 

Open to adults 18+. Walk solo, with a partner, or as part of a group—whatever works best for you!
