Lakia Coakley is a recent Social Work graduate aiming to foster resilience and present pathways for lasting change to overlooked and underserved populations. As Educational Support Services Coordinator, she will leverage her experiences working in diverse settings, case management, juvenile justice, parenting supports, and facilitation to reengage youth and their families in overcoming attendance barriers and pursuing education.

Lakia grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Her connection to Sabathani is rooted in its mission. It seems that when South Minneapolis calls, Sabathani answers, and she is grateful to be a part of such a driven organization.

Lakia is excited to be inspired by the stories that will be curated through this work. Through partnering with the Be at School Service and engaging parents and youth in empowerment groups, she is thrilled to see the creative and strengthened family units that emerge.
