Join us for an evening of celebration, community, and legacy as Sabathani Community Center proudly unveils the Southside Sports Hall of Fame, a new permanent extension of our Living History Museum.

This special event, held during Black History Month, honors the athletes, coaches, teams, and community leaders whose impact on South Minneapolis sports has inspired generations. Together, we’ll celebrate Southside sports heroes and the power of athletics to build connection, opportunity, and pride.

What to Expect

Guests can look forward to a welcoming evening that includes:

  • The official unveiling of the Southside Sports Hall of Fame
  • Community reflections and brief presentations celebrating South Minneapolis sports legacy
  • Light bites provided by Events with Taste
  • DJ Enferno spinning feel-good classics and crowd favorites
  • A 3-point contest with gift card prizes

This event is open to everyone — community members, families, youth, elders, sports fans, and anyone who wants to celebrate South Minneapolis history together.

About the Southside Sports Hall of Fame

The Southside Sports Hall of Fame honors African American individuals who have had a significant impact on sports in South Minneapolis, as well as individuals of any race whose work has meaningfully supported Black athletes, youth, or sports programs in the community.

The nomination period for the new additions is now closed, and these selected honorees will be revealed as part of this community unveiling:

  • Larry Fitzgerald Sr.
  • Sankara Frazier
  • Charles Hallman
  • Al Nuness
  • Bob Williams

These honorees will be featured in a new permanent display located on the 2nd floor near the Sabathani gym, building upon the display of athletes already featured in Sabathani’s Living History Museum.
