Join Sabathani Community Center for a special community conversation with Dr. David Hamlar, Chair of the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Red Cross. 

Dr. Hamlar will share important information about sickle cell disease, the need for blood donations, and the vital role Black blood donors can play in helping patients receive compatible blood. 

Come meet Dr. Hamlar, learn more, ask questions, and discover how giving blood can make a difference in our community.

The conversation comes ahead of Sabathani’s Fall Blood Drive on Friday, November 13, offering community members an opportunity to learn before deciding whether to donate. 

About Dr. David Hamlar 

Major General (bvt) (RET) David Hamlar is a physician, educator, military leader, and community volunteer. He attended Howard University Dental School and The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he completed his residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. A fellowship in Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery brought him to the University of Minnesota, where his work has included training medical students and residents, serving on the admissions committee, and acting as a faculty advisor. 

Dr. Hamlar also had a distinguished career with the Minnesota Air National Guard, serving as commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing Medical Group and State Air Surgeon before becoming Assistant Adjutant General–Air in 2014. 

He currently serves as Chair of the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Red Cross and on the board of the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. He is also a team physician for the Minnesota Wild and a medical consultant for the Gophers, Vikings, and Timberwolves.
