Celebrating Black artistry. Building community. Creating space.
The Black Excellence Experience (B.E.E.) is a new visual arts initiative at Sabathani Community Center, shining a spotlight on emerging Black artists through a rotating gallery residency program. Hosted in our newly launched BEE Gallery in Room 138, the program offers artists an opportunity to share their work, engage with the public, and connect with fellow creatives.

Each featured artist is invited for a one-week residency, transforming the gallery space into both a showcase and a working studio. During their time at Sabathani, artists display completed works, create new pieces on-site, and offer their creations for sale to the community. The program provides a platform for artists whose work has not yet been shown in local galleries, helping build visibility and momentum in their creative journey.

The program welcomes a wide range of artistic media, from painting, sculpture, and ceramics to photography, textiles, woodworking, clothing design, jewelry, and more. Whether rooted in tradition or pushing into experimental forms, the work reflects the richness and diversity of Black creative expression.
